History Nugget

Laboratory for System Design (LSD) was founded in 1996 and it is managed by University of Maribor. Since then it became one of the leading Slovene research teams - it conducts research across a wide range of disciplines in computer science and informatics domain.

Research

The main distinguishing research areas of LSD Laboratory are inteligent systems, informatics in medicine, infomatics in health care and complexity theory with emphasis on quality of software applications.

LSD has been a coordinator and an active partner in numerous european, international and national projects - among them are projects of 5FP and 6FP as well. It cooperates with many partners in Slovenia and abroad.

Education

Our goals include transfer of knowledge gained from research to students in an unconventinal, but more intuitive way. Topics in our courses are updated dynamically, so students gain insights in the exciting lifes of researchers. Our senior students are offered a chance to experience many of real-life situations related to project management at first hand.

Synergy

Our mission is to be the best research team in our region in the above mentioned disciplines - a research team that will conduct world-wide recognized research, that will successfully transfer research results in practical work, discover, generate, promote and spread knowledge. We will act in a way to assure higher quality of research, better products and services and last but not least higher quality of life in general.

We members of LSD are much more than just a 'sum' of individual researchers. We like to build our synergic spirit through various team building activities.
